Why Tanzania runs above Kenya
- Park and conservation fees are substantial and are charged per person per day
- Distances are larger, so there is more internal flying and it costs more
- The Crater carries its own fees, including a vehicle charge for the descent
- Mobile camps, which follow the herds in the south, cost more to run than fixed ones
- Camp rates themselves sit above Kenyan equivalents at a comparable standard

Where to save without spoiling it
- Drop the Crater on a short trip. It saves a day, a cold night and a fee set.
- One Serengeti sector rather than two, which removes a flight.
- Shoulder dates. The same camp can be substantially less in March or November.
- A longer coast and a shorter bush half, if the budget is tight — Zanzibar is cheaper per night than the Serengeti.
